The brains (and hearts) behind Upworthy, Gabe Reilich and Lucia Knell, asked questions like “What’s the kindest thing a stranger has ever done for you?  Who’s the teacher who changed your life?  Who was there for you when you needed it most?” They poured over thousands of responses, conducted hundreds of interviews, and worked closely with their online community to create something that will outlast an algorithm.
