Dr. Sara Glass book signing for Kissing Girls on Shabbat: A Memoir

  • Diesel, A Bookstore 225 26th St Santa Monica, CA 90402 (map)

Join Diesel, A Bookstore on Wednesday June 12th at 6:30 as they welcome Dr. Sara Glass to the store to discuss and sign Kissing Girls on Shabbat: A Memoir. Joining her in conversation will be Raye Schiller.

Gender segregation, deference to men, and fear—of God, the rebbe, outsiders, and the evil lurking inside all of us. That was life as usual for Sara Glass, then known as Malka, growing up in the small, insular Gur Hasidic sect in Borough Park, Brooklyn. As a teen, she had accepted her calling as a servant of God: to become a dutiful wife and bear children. Still, she had questions. Hardest of all was to understand why she so deeply and powerfully felt a love that she was taught to hate—love for someone of her own sex.

Sara Glass, PhD, LCSW, is a therapist, writer, and speaker who helps members of the queer community and individuals who have survived trauma to live bold, honest, and proud lives. She lives in Manhattan, New York with her three children.

Raye Schiller is a queer, ex-Orthodox Jewish comedian and writer from New York, based in Los Angeles. Raye has performed standup around the world, including Tel Aviv, Rome, London, and Peru and headlined at the NY Comedy Festival. Raye hosts the popular comedy podcast “Yenta!” and boasts a devoted social media following with millions of views on their standup clips. For no good reason, Raye also has a Masters in Computer Science from Cornell University.

This event is free to attend and will be held in the Lower Courtyard near DIESEL, A Bookstore at the Mart.
